Are you willing to study in the USA?  

In order to study in the USA for more than a couple of weeks, students are required to have an F1 Visa. There are various processes involved in order to get approved for an F1 Visa.

The documents that are required while applying for the visa areas:

  • A valid passport
  • The Nonimmigrant Visa Application, Form DS-160.
  • A passport size photo
  • The receipt of the application fee payment
  • A certificate of eligibility for Non-immigrant (F1)  student status (Form 1-20)

Sometimes additional documents. may be asked in order to prove that you are eligible for approval of an F1 student visa. Additional documents may include academic transcripts, diplomas, degrees or certificates. Once you are ready with your documents then there are various processes involved while applying for a student visa. 

What are the processes involved?

Get accepted by a school that is approved by SEVP:- Before you apply for a student visa you need to get approved by the SEVP first i.e. you have to apply for school. Then you have to get accepted by a school that is approved by the SEVP.

  • Pay your SEVIS fee and receive your I-20:- Pay your SEVIS fee and then you will be receiving your I-20. Once you are approved then in order to get enrolled in the student and exchange visitor information system (SEVIS) you are asked to pay the SEVIS-901 fee.
  • Once the required fee is paid then the school provides you with a Form I-20. This form is required during the interview process, it will be presented to the consular officer during your interview. In case your family is planning to reside in the USA until your study tenure, then they will also need individual form I-20s. However, they won't be asked to get enrolled in the SEVIS.
  • Complete your Visa application:- After that, you will be asked to complete your visa application form. Applying for an F1 student visa might vary depending on the US embassy you may be dealing with. You will be required to pay a visa application fee that would be non-refundable. Visa applications are also available online that allow you to complete and print the Form DS-160 to take to your F1 visa interview.
  • Schedule and Prepare for your interview:- Now, it's the final process where you need to schedule an interview for your f1 visa approval. You need to attend an interview with the US embassy. After you schedule for your interview, you will have to wait, though wait time may vary according to the location, season, and the category of visa. So, you must apply for a visa earlier to avoid possible delays. An F1 student visa for the USA can be issued up to 120 days in advance of your course that you would study and the start date of the course. You will be allowed to enter the US only 30 days before the course starts with an F1 visa.
  • Attending an interview:-While you attend the interview, a few questions and documents would be asked. This is done to prove your eligibility for the oval of an F1 visa.

Tips for the student while applying for Visa

While applying for the USA Student Visa you need to:-

  • Be confident about what you speak and you must know how to speak for yourself and how to prove your point.
  • Have a good command of English is compulsory as English is the native language in the USA.  
  • Have all your documents must be very clear so that a consular officer can understand your presentation and evaluate what they are trying to signify. Lengthy explanations won't really work as it would take time for the consular to read and evaluate what you are trying to convey. Remember,  you will have 2 to 3 minutes of an interview if you are lucky. 
  • Maintain a positive attitude, it is very important and is one of the deciding factors for the approval of your Visa.

It must be noted that not every time your visa is approved so you must never make final travel plans until your visa is approved.
