TOEFL at Home

Due to the current situation of public health concern, ETS is organizing a temporary TOEFL home edition. This test is the same in content, format, and on-screen experience as normal TOEFL takes at test centers.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENT

  • You must use a PC or Mac with Windows 10, 8 or 7. An IOS operating system or any mobile devices are not supported
  • You can use only a chrome or firefox browser.
  • You have to download and install the ETS test browser and run the ProctorU system check.
  • You must use an internal or external speaker to hear the proctor. Headsets or wireless earphones are not allowed.
  • You communicate with the proctor.
  • The camera can be either built-in or external but must show the proctor a view of the whole room including your tabletop surface.
  • You cannot use an external microphone that is not part of the headset to the medium of your test.
  • You cannot use regular paper to take notes but you can use a whiteboard with an erasable marker. You can also use a paper transparent sheet protector and erasable marker

REGISTRATION PROCESS

  • Make sure you have a proper ID
  • Create an ETS account for the TOEFL general test with the same name as in your ID
  • Go to the TOEFL home page and click on register/find a test center and select the option for a test at home.
  • Follow the directions to finish your registration. You will receive an Email with your proctorU account to select test date and time.
  • In case you need to reschedule or cancel your test, you can use your proctorU account to do so.

THINGS TO KNOW DURING TEST

  • During the test a proctor will monitor you to check if you follow all procedures.
  • You must be alone in a well-lit room and your table and surrounding area must be clear.
  • Login to your proctor account. You will have up to 15 minutes to check in after your scheduled time. If you don’t check-in you will not be allowed to give the test and you will also lose your money
  • The proctor will watch you for the entire session. Do not use any unauthorized devices.
  • There will be a 10-minute break after the listening section when You can leave your seat. If you do not return on time your test will be canceled.
  • In the end you can view unofficial scores for reading and listening sections. Then you can either report or cancel the scores.

SCORE

You will receive your scores within 6-10 days in your ETS Account. And your scores will be sent to any institution which you selected during registration.

RETESTING

You can use the same procedure to register for another TOEFL test. You can register for the test in test centers as available dates permit in your ETS Account. For either test you cannot give more than once in a 3 day period.
