ELIGIBILITY -  Minimum Admission Requirements

  • An appropriate bachelor's degree with standing like a minimum of the University of Toronto B+. Preference is given to students with a computer science background.
  • Applicants whose primary language isn’t English and who graduated must achieve a TOEFL score with a minimum of 580 on the paper-based test, TWE of 4; 93/120 and 22/30 on the speaking and writing section.

Program Requirement

Coursework. Completion of full-course equivalents (FCEs) in computer science of 2.0 grade. The courses must satisfy breadth in three of the four different Methodologies of Computer Science to make sure that MSc graduates have a breadth of skills for research and problem solving throughout their careers.

Course Structure

1. Data science

Completion of four graduate-level courses (totaling 2.0 Full Course Equivalents (FCEs)). Two of these MUST be from the Department of Computer Science’s graduate course provision and the other two from the Maths department.

Courses Required (1.0 FCE): Communications for Computer Scientists (CSC 2701H) and Technical entrepreneurship (CSC 2702H).

An eight-month industrial internship, CSC 2703H.

2. Computer Science

  • Completion of four graduate-level courses (totaling 2.0 Full Course Equivalents (FCEs)). Two of these MUST be from computer science.  The other two can be from computer science, but students also have the option of choosing sufficiently technical, graduate-level, courses from other departments
  • Courses Required(1.0 FCE) : Communications for Computer Scientists (C SC 2701H) and Technical entrepreneurship (CSC 2702H). 
  • An eight-month industrial internship, CSC 2703H.

3. Applied Mathematics


Completion of four graduate-level courses (totaling 2.0 Full Course Equivalents (FCEs)). Two of these MUST be from the Department of Computer Science’s graduate course provision. The other two MUST be from the Department of Statistical Science’s course provision and must include STA2453H Data Science Methods, Collaboration, and Communication.

  • Courses Required - Communications for Computer Scientists (CSC 2701H) and Technical entrepreneurship (CSC 2702H).
  • An eight-month industrial internship, CSC 2703H.
