Me: Goodmorning Sir.
VO: Good morning !
VO: Hi. Can I have your passport, i20 and SEVIS fee confirmation ?
Me: Given(After scanning the bar code on the passport couple of times)
VO: Have you applied for visa interview to some other center?
Me: No(VO scanning it again, and finally typed the code in the system)
VO: Remove your mask. (Verified my pic of the passport)You have gained a lot?
Me: Yes Sir, because of the lockdown. (Tried talking more but interrupted)
VO: Put your left hand on the scanner
Me: Did
VO: SIr, you have two hands and I have asked for the right one to put on scanner.
Me: Sorry. Did(His voice was so low, I kept on asking "Please say that again", Beg your pardon". So far, he was successful in his job of intimidating students)
VO: Which course you are going to study and why?
Me: MS Business analytics. Started answering for why. (Just after few sentences on course structure, VO interrupted and was like don't give me recited answers tell me something else. I started fumbling because of the way it has been started and difficulty speaking through mask.
VO: Why this university?
Me:( Had 3 main points. Course structure, Faculty, Industry association. Course structure he was not interested in knowing) Then i started explaining Faculty. Not even finished the sentence...
VO: Have you spoken to or written to the faculty?
Me: No. I have researched their profile and have (VO signalling .. what next.. move forward from this point........) read few of their articles published in the journalsI moved to next point to explain industry association.. (One word and VO was signalling cut it short. Leave it)
By this time I started having all the negative thoughts.
VO: Who is sponsoring your visa?
ME: My father and my spouse?
VO: Your spouse? Is she your wife?(I didn't understand this question, as the VO was speaking so slow. He repeated ) Is your spouse your wife?
Me; Yes, My wife.
VO: Where is she?
Me: She is in US and working on H1B.(typing on system......)
VO: What was your under-graduation in?
Me: Answered
VO: Which university?
Me: Answered
VO: What is your GRE score?
Me: Answered
VO: Did you get admit from other universities?
ME: Yes, 6.
VO: Can you name them?
Me; Started naming (After 3rd university he was like cut it cut it....)
After a pause and looking suspiciously at the system..VO: Have you applied for this visa before?
Me: No
VO, Looking at my passport previously stamped h4 visa, my face looks little different from my earlier visa fotos. Asked about my face change. Started smiling a little.
VO: Congratulations! I am approving your visa. Me: Thank you so much. Have a great day ahead !
And I turned was like WHAT JUST HAPPENED !!Took couple of mins to believe, yes they have kept the passport and is approved. 🙂
