F1 USA Visa - Everything you need to know

F1 Visa in a non-immigrant visa for international students who goes to the USA for international studies. It is a study visa(for university or college, high school, private elementary school, seminary, conservatory, language training program, or other academic institution.)

Upon acceptance from any such institution, you have to apply for an F1 Visa. I will explain further details on how to apply and other information.


Qualification of F1 Visa

Foreign Residence - You must have a residence in your home country and intends(pans) to come back.

Admission to an institute - You have to study only at the educational institution where the visa was granted.

Financial Assistance - You have to show enough funding/financial support to support his/her studies and stay in the US

Ties to your home country - You have to prove your ties with your home country. It can be in the form of assets, family, bank accounts, job offers, or others.


  • You are already enrolled in an academic course of study or a language training program in the United States
  • Your school is certified by SEVIS
  • You have paid the SEVIS I-901 fee
  • You have received a Form I-20 from your SEVP-approved school
  • You are enrolled as a full-time student
  • You are proficient in English, or you are enrolled in courses leading to English proficiency
  • You possess sufficient funds to support you throughout the entire proposed course of study
  • You have a residence abroad(home country) which you have no intention of giving up

How to Apply?

1. GET I-20 from your university

First, you need an I-20 from the university; you cannot proceed without an I-20.


So, first, get the I-20 from your university. You have to submit your financial documents and proof of funds to get an I-20 from your university. The documents required may differ from university to university.


On your I-20, this information will be there(along with others) -


1.SEVIS ID

2. University name and address

3. school code.

4. Program start and end date

5. Estimated cost for 1 Year



2. Fill DS-160 Form

You have to fill this form, after filling this form you will get a barcode confirmation number which will be used later in filling the application form.


3. Fill F1 Visa application form and pay the amount
4. Pay SEVIS Fee
5. Schedule a biometric appointment
6. Go for a personal interview and biometric process
